Graduate Software Engineer

“On top of the obvious things that are great about Red Gate, I found the best thing was how quickly I was considered important.  You’ll find yourself using initiative from day one: help is there, but only if you need it.”  Alex Davies, Software Engineer

At Red Gate, we’re fanatical about creating elegant, ingeniously simple software. As a graduate software engineer you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in every part of the process, and with thousands of people downloading our products each month, you’ll really feel the value of your work.

Our developers are at the top of their game and truly passionate about what they do, and working alongside them, you won’t just be writing development code. As a crucial member of a small, multi-disciplinary team, you’ll write tests, influence product decisions, work on the UI, and inform marketing campaigns. We also have a Down Tools Week every three months, where you can build whatever you want, from the sensibleto the silly.

There really is nowhere better to kick-start your career in software engineering, all we need is your CV and a cover letter – simple as that. So what are you waiting for?

What makes you a Red Gate Software engineer?

  • You’re passionate about technology and highly methodical.
  • You thrive in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • You’ll value the freedom of being able to make your own decisions about your work.
  • You aspire to do great things (ideally in software development, though we’re cool if you’re also aiming for world peace).
  • You’ll do whatever it takes to get things done, even if it means working from underneath your desk during a sustained Marmite-coated Nerf attack.

What experience should you have?

  • A 2:1 or 1stin a technical degree from a good university.
  • If your degree is not computer science or software engineering, you’ll need to have significant experience of programming outside of your degree.
  • You have a proven interest in software development.
  • You’ll need excellent coding knowledge, and skills in C# or Java (most of our code is C#) would be a great advantage.

What would really help?

  • A passion for good software designand an interest in creating intuitive user interfaces.
  • Skills in Nerf warfare.

What's the package?

What else should you consider?

  • You’ll be working for one of the top graduate employers in the UK (number 7 to be precise) according to The JobCrowd Top 50 Companies for Graduates.
  • We’ll really focus on helping you to grow professionally– the sky’s the limit for your development.
  • We’re a thriving community of software engineers, and regularly have lightning talks, guest speakers, and sometimes eat so much cake, we explode.*

*metaphorically. Not literally.
