Software Engineers
"If you’re a developer, there’s only one place you want to work in the UK: Red Gate. The support, freedom, passion and culture there is simply awesome."
Ryan Carson, Carsonified & FOWA
We’ve hired a lot of Software Engineers recently and we’ve made offers to a few more. We’re always very keen to hear from Software Engineers interested in joining Red Gate, but we've reached the point where we are now temporarily changing the way we make job offers. We might offer you a place on a waiting list rather than a job starting right away. We’ll take a little longer to manage the recruitment process too, as we focus on managing the roles that we need to fill right away. Red Gate is a growing company so hopefully you won’t have to wait too long. We’re keeping this advert up because we really do want to hear from you.
We’re a group of smart, innovative and creative people, based in Cambridge, who make ingeniously simple software. We’re growing and we’ve got loads of great product ideas. We need more people to make them happen.
We’re independently recognised as the best small software development workplace in Cambridge. To read more about life as a Software Engineer at Red Gate please click here or see what people at Red Gate have to say in our People Profiles and Video Diaries.
So, what do we do? We develop software in small autonomous project teams using the scrum approach. You’ll be working with awesome engineers, testers, authors and user experience specialists. Every three months we have a Down Tools Week where we build whatever we want. We’re hiring across all areas of product and internal development. We make tools for database developers and administrators. We also make .Net and Exchange tools. But it’s not all about product development; we have a significant ecommerce site and community sites including sqlservercentral.com with 100,000 page views per day. If there’s a particular area you’re interested in, please just let us know.
So, what are we looking for? Well, you don’t need to be a genius, but we’d like you to be pretty smart. A 2:1 or a 1st from a good university (preferably in Computer Science) tells us that we can probably learn stuff from you. We’d like you to have a good practical background in computing and commercial experience. Agile and team working experience would be good. As for programming languages, we’re interested in C#, java or C/C++. Above all, we’re looking for an ability to master whatever technologies and languages we need you to and a genuine passion for building great software.
Salaries range from £30,000 to £45,000. We have a fantastic benefits package which includes bonuses, free breakfast & lunch, 25 days’ holiday, a 6 weeks' paid sabbatical after every 5 years, pension, BUPA health and travel, stock options, life assurance, critical illness cover, income protection cover, local travel discounts, an annual charity day, free parking, childcare vouchers and subsidised gym membership. And there’s flexitime so you can start at 11am if you like. Most importantly, you’ll work in a great environment, on challenging projects, with smart people that inspire you.
